GERMANY- FROM HAMBURG TO BAVARIA

Kids of all ages love Germany |
By bike, car, boat or bus explore the Castle Routes of
Germany. Many clients join with German hosts for both
walking trips and cave explorations.
One favorite family vacation is a combined
France/German adventure through WW I sites, across the
Moselle and Alsace wine regions and then south through the
Black Forest to Bavaria or north toward Koln and Frankfurt.
Other combined country trips that are
popular with our clients are the Bavaria and Swiss holiday
as well as the Austria/German adventure.
To the north Berlin and Hamburg another two
country option beckens: Denmark by car, air or train. Or
take frequent trains from Berlin to the Czech Republic and
Prague.
We are pleased
to offer those seeking family roots connections with native
Germans who reserach, translate and help make your visit
most rewarding. Contact us at 206-363 6575 or
email us for
details.
Some of our favorite
stops in Germany:
-
Baden-Baden, the
elegant spa-metropolis of the Black Forest.
-
Heidelberg with its
dominating castle and old bridge
-
Stuttgart, the state
capital of Baden-Württemberg with its cultural and
industrial centre
-
Baden-Württemberg
Region with its 60 resorts of water cures and spas
-
Pferonten- from our
poinr of view the best tour and grounds of any of Ludwig’s
Castles
-
Dinkelsbuehl for its
ramparts and old town
-
Villingen from
Rottwewil- for old crafts and clock makers
-
Bremen- This lively
city of excellent chocholate and coffee is a surprising gem
of northern German Bremen offers a sophisticated
cuisine and world class chefs.

Brandenburger Tor |
Berlin Visits
Treat yourself to as many sights in Berlin as you can.
|
Alexanderplatz.
It's current appearance dates from the times when the East German city
centre was constructed. The square is dominated by the
Fernseheturm (TV tower)
hosting the Telecafé. It is the ideal place to take refreshment and
enjoy a breath-taking view of the city below while the café rotates 360°
on its own axis.Berlin is
filled with wonderful museums and monuments - both old and new. If
you can only see one, don't miss the
Pergamom Museum.
Unter den Linden,
this boulevard that stretches from the Schloss Bridge (just down Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse
from Aleksanderplatz) to Parizer Platz and Brandenburger Tor. Unter den
Linden is the heart of old Berlin. Most of the buildings built between
16th and 19th centuries are on this route. |

Fernseheturm Tower along the Spree |
Parizer Platz,
site of carefully reconstructed buildings and the very recently and detailed
reconstruction of the
Brandenburger Tor,
the only
remaining city gate in Berlin.
Friedrichstrasse.
On the southern half of Friedrichstrasse there are countless buildings
featuring the latest in architectural design which include several ‘must
visit’ shops and many, many restaurants and cafés.
Munich – with
one of best tourist offices in the world:
Explore Munich by foot, taxis, bikes, rental cars or any
other form of transportation. Enjoy the Fussgangerzones meant only for
pedestrians. The Marienplatz which is central Munich is a wonderful place to
view the old and new Town Halls, shop and enjoy a meal in the area.
When you choose to walk around like most of the locals
do, you tend to see more of what Munich has to offer and we have over 29
walking routes for you to explore.

HOLLAND IS NOT JUST
AMSTERDAM
HERE ARE SOME OF
OUR FAVORITE STOPS TO ADD TO A NETHERLANDS TRIP |
DELFT,
where Delftware is still made by hand, and you may stroll and visit
medieval structures from arched bridges to massive churches.
Henri and I find Delft
is most welcoming with its many outdoor terraces, tour boats
and giant flower/food market.
HARLINGEN, TERSCHELLING AND VLIELAND
Sleep high above the harbor in the lighthouse and explore the province of
Friesland with its islands.
DEN HAAG-CITY OF PEACE AND JUSTICE—DEN HAAG
Henri and I love to people watch in this
capital city - we stay in a small hotel across from a canal and people
watching is a drama a minute. Sample international food from all over the
world and we have lots of activities for both kids and historians.
And
now, our Highlights of Amsterdam: |
|
Ann Frank House and Museum -
no one should miss and you will always remember
Visit a cheese maker and clock maker for
half a day and have the “Heineken Experience.” Free the rest of
the afternoon-no children! |

Ann Frank Museum along with her canal street
neighbors. - Amsterdam
|
-
We love the free tours of the De Braak
Gardens and city neighborhood walks. The recently restored Zeediks area with
its great Asian foods is a must. Note the many picturesque homes.
-
The Museumplein and Parks Area is tranquil
and delightful while the Jordaan is swinging and diverse.
-
The old center (Red Light) is Tourist town
between Dam and the
train station. 18-25 year olds find it exciting - we find it rather shabby
and a rip off area.
-
Canal walking or biking all over the city-
-
Van Gogh
Museum - Fabulous collection of Van Gogh paintings and information about the
artist.

BELGIUM
FROM
QUAINT
CITIES TO
THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE HISTORIC TRAILS. |
|
Our clients often
include Belgium in a WWII memorial journey especially if a relative
served during those late winter months of 1944-45. While the full extent or
the Ardennes Offensive ranged from southern Holland to the Colmar pocket in
southern Alsace, it is the area from Willendorf, Bettendorf and
Niederberghof in far western Germany to south central Belgium where most
American and Canadian troops were involved.
Other travelers enjoy a
few nights in Brussels on the Grand-Place square with day trips to
Brugge(Burges)/Ghent or a visit to Antwerp and the Rueben museum and the
Grote Market.
For families with
children the Gravansteen Castle in Ghent with summer festivals and wonderful
cellars is a real delight. This is one of our favorite cities and not
expensive!

LUXEMBOURG
BIKE OR HIKE THE MINETTE CANYON
AREA. |
|
Cyclists-friendly
Gutland abounds in meadows and forests, while the Moselle offers views of
refreshing vineyards. Rock climbers will be challenged in Mullerthal known
for its grand rock formations.
The valley's Route
du Vin, or Wine Road along the Moselle begins at Waserbillig and follows
the River south through the wine region's capital at Grevenmacher and beyond
to the picturesque villages of Wormeldange, Remich and Schengen. We have
arranged tastings along the route from May early September.
Another fun experience
is touring the 'Wine River' from April through September. The Princesse
Marie-Astrid, hits all the major sipping-spots from Schengen, at the
southernmost tip of Luxembourg, to Bernkastel, Germany.
For WWII trips it is a
short us or drive to Trier in Germany. For real retreats try Reisdiorf on
confluence of three rivers. Reisdiorf provides Roman ruins, Panoramic shots
of the Eifet area of Germany and a memorial to our troops who died during
The Battle of the Bulge.
