Families whose grandparents were part of WW I often bring the
following generations to this area - especially our Canadian and
Irish clients as well as US citizens.
|
We often return ourselves to Vimy
Ridge and the commonwealth and USA memorials as we drive to and from
Belgium, Holland and Alsace.
Travelers can easily take the
train from Paris to several towns but to see the memorials and
history of WW I and II driving is best.
Residents are
eager to share their warm and hospitable traditions. View the
strong Flemish influences reflected in architecture, cuisine and
history.
Description
This picturesque land consists
of contrasting forests, gentle meadows, and rolling hills dotted
with windmills. Sandy beaches and imposing cliffs make up the
150-mile stretch of coastline. Visitors may cruise the network of
canals and rivers and/or explore the expansive countryside and
nature reserve parks. Many battlefields, including Flanders Fields,
are in the region.
Your French Connexion can
plan for you to participate in archeological explorations or trace
the history from Charles the Bold to Napoleon the III. WW I and WW
II fields and
memorials are also a part of history for many families.
Golf is very
popular followed by horseback riding, mountain biking and water
sports. From Paris The Cathedrals and villages at Senlis and Amiens
are worth a visit for both their architectural design and historical
beauty.
Cuisine
In Senlis there is an outstanding restaurant
where the English speaking chef may show you his 11th, 9th and 3rd
century wine cellars. We have found several outstanding places to
dine during in this region.
