Rome’s best
Museums are the open air ones:

the Forum
-
the
Coliseum
-
the
Pantheon, etc.
Plan one day
for those outdoor explorations as well as the fountains throughout the
city.
The Forum
is free and is worth a half day. As you enter from Via dei Forti
Imperiali so to your left you can see the temples and the remains of
the ancient Basilica to your right.
It is a help
to use the Via Sacra as your focal point to come and go between the
ruins. Great fun for families is to climb Palatine Hill- the estates
of ancient Roman’s may be gone but the present residents have
preserved the natural settings and the views of the Colosseum etc.
Depending the
heat index do this area from 8am to about 11 or from 5pm to dark.

Steps and Piazzi di Spagna can be reached easily by public
transportation. This is most expensive shopping area of Rome yet a
few blocks from the steps are many reasonably priced places to eat
with your family.

at dusk- great view of Rome most of all at dawn and worth an early
rise when at dawn the view is world famous and awesome.
